Nordau Beach is a unique, gender-segregated beach in Tel Aviv, Israel, designed specifically for the city’s religious Orthodox community who want to swim and relax while maintaining modesty.

It is the only beach in Tel Aviv surrounded by high walls that separate it from neighboring beaches like Hilton and Metzitzim, and it alternates days by gender: women can visit on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while men are allowed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

On Saturdays, when observant Jews typically don’t go to the beach, it is open to everyone, though it’s often quieter and less crowded on that day. The beach offers amenities including beach chair rentals, public restrooms, outdoor showers, change rooms, a children’s playground, and a fitness area, and it’s free to enter with lifeguards on duty during set hours (7:45 am to sundown in summer, 7:45 am to 1:45 pm in winter).

Activities like barbecues, bonfires, parties, dogs, and water sports are not allowed, making it a calm, restrained environment appealing to those seeking single-sex bathing or a more modest atmosphere.
