The Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant is one of the Czech Republic’s most important energy facilities and the country’s first nuclear power station.

Located in the Vysočina Region near the village of Dukovany, it began operating in the mid-1980s and is owned and operated by the ČEZ Group. The plant has four nuclear reactors and generates a substantial share of the nation’s electricity, producing around 14–15 terawatt-hours of power each year and supplying roughly 20% of the Czech Republic’s electricity needs.

It is a key source of reliable, low-carbon energy and plays a major role in the country’s energy security. Over the years, Dukovany has undergone extensive modernization and safety improvements, helping to extend its operational lifespan. The site is also a major regional employer and includes a visitor center that provides information about nuclear energy and the plant’s operations.

The power plant remains central to the Czech Republic’s future energy strategy, with plans for additional reactor units to increase nuclear power generation and support the country’s transition toward a more sustainable energy mix.
