Orashje Fortress
Republic of Macedonia, North Macedonia
Orashje Fortress, known as Oraško Kale or Sobri Fortress, is a little-known ancient ruin near Dolno Orašje village in Jegunovce municipality, northwestern North Macedonia, accessible via a scenic 5 km hike with 200 m elevation gain from the road. Used since late antiquity (300-600 AD) to guard vital roads and nearby iron and silver mines, it yielded ceramics, 4th-6th century coins, and iron/bronze/silver artifacts, with medieval renovations adding impressive features like the 9-11 m high southern acropolis wall and a northern tower amid western wall remnants.
