Oslavany Chateau
Oslavany, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Oslavany Chateau is a Renaissance château in the town of Oslavany in South Moravia, built on the site of the first Cistercian convent founded in Moravia in 1225.
After the monastery was damaged and later dissolved in the 16th century, the Althan family transformed the complex into a noble residence, creating the château seen today. The château is notable for its large arcaded courtyard, one of the biggest of its kind in the Czech Republic, as well as its preserved Gothic monastery church and historic architecture that reflects both medieval and Renaissance influences.
Over the centuries, the estate passed through several noble families and experienced periods of decline, particularly after World War II. Extensive restoration efforts since the 1990s have helped revive the complex and preserve its historical significance. Today, Oslavany Chateau serves as a cultural and tourist center, housing exhibitions on firefighting, mining, and energy history, while also hosting festivals, events, and community activities.
