Pajrek Castle
Nýrsko, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Pajrek Castle is a medieval castle ruin located on a wooded hill above the town of Nýrsko in western Czechia, near the Bavarian border.
Built in the early 14th century, it served as an important frontier fortress that helped protect trade routes and monitor movement across the border region. The castle was abandoned by the late 15th century, briefly rebuilt in the early 1500s, and then permanently deserted by the middle of the 16th century.
Over time, most of the structure disappeared, leaving only portions of its massive tower and fortifications. Today, Pajrek is a freely accessible historic site in the Bohemian Forest area. Visitors come for its medieval history, peaceful forest setting, and scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
