Palacio De Los Guzmanes
León, Spain, Spain
Palacio De Los Guzmanes is a prime 16th-century Renaissance palace in central León, Spain, constructed around 1560 by the influential House of Guzmán on the site of an older Gothic-Mudéjar building and part of the city walls, designed by architect Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón.
Its trapezoidal layout features four corner towers, a grand facade with Ionic columns, barred windows, balconied upper floors under triangular pediments, and a top gallery of glazed arches flanked by Corinthian pilasters, surrounding a two-story cloister courtyard with a decorative central well and noble staircase.
Commissioned by Bishop Juan de Quiñones y Guzmán and left unfinished for centuries until major 1970s restorations, it now serves as León's Diputación Provincial headquarters after acquisition in 1882, declared a historic monument in 1963.
