Verified Palacio De Sotofermoso

Spain, Spain

Palacio de Sotofermoso is a historic 16th-century Renaissance palace situated in Abadía, Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain, along the Ambroz River at the foot of the Hervás mountain range.

Originally constructed atop a 13th-century monastery by Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, the 3rd Duke of Alba, it formed part of one of Spain's most luxurious gardens of the era, rivaling royal estates and serving as a key stop on the Vía de la Plata route frequented by kings and nobility.

The site, declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931, belonged to the Dukes of Alba until the early 20th century and features enduring Baroque elements, panoramic river views, and remnants of its once-grand layout despite partial decay. Today, it stands as a cultural gem worth visiting for its preserved structure and scenic beauty.
