Palangos Miesto Botanikos Parkas
Palanga, Lithuania, Lithuania
Palangos Miesto Botanikos Parkas, or Palanga Botanical Park, was established in 1897 by Count Feliksas Tiškevičius around the Neo-Renaissance Tiškevičiai Palace, designed by German architect Franz Heinrich Schwechten.
The park was created with the guidance of French landscape architect Édouard André, featuring about 250 imported and 370 native plant species, including some that are endangered in Lithuania. It spans over 100 hectares and includes an oak tree planted by President Antanas Smetona, a rose garden, greenhouses, ponds, and sculptures such as the statue of Eglė, the Queen of Serpents.
The park surrounds the Palanga Amber Museum, which opened in 1963 and holds a vast collection of amber jewelry and artifacts. The botanical park's historical significance is linked with Lithuanian cultural heritage, as it also includes the ancient forested sand dune Birutė's Hill, associated with local legends and featuring a chapel dating back to 1869.
The park frequently hosts concerts, festivals, and other cultural events, making it a key cultural and natural attraction in Palanga.
