Dubravos Arboretumas
Lithuania, Lithuania
Dubravos Arboretumas (Dubrava Arboretum) is a dendrological collection located in Girionys, near the road 1902 Vaišvydava–Girionys–Žiegždriai in Kaunas District, Lithuania, established in 1958 and covering 51.5 hectares (about 71.1 acres).
It is one of three arboretums in Lithuania and serves as one of the most significant introduction and study centers of dendroflora in the country, accumulating, conserving, and exhibiting valuable native and introduced trees and shrubs from scientific, educational, and ornamental perspectives.
The arboretum houses approximately 800 to over 1,000 taxonomic units (species, subspecies, forms, and varieties) of woody plants, with some sources indicating over 2,000 plant species in total, including unique rare imported trees and shrubs not characteristic of Lithuanian nature alongside local species.
A notable feature is its impressive rhododendron collection of 50 species, including the exclusive American rhododendron that grows over 6 meters tall, with the first rhododendrons planted 65 years ago. In 2000, the Ministry of Environment granted the arboretum the status of a dendrological collection and declared it a protected natural object under the Dubravos experimental teaching forest administration.
