Pazo de Borraxeiros
Spain, Spain
Pazo de Borraxeiros is a grand 17th-century Galician manor house built atop the ruins of a medieval fortress from the Reconquista era (8th-15th centuries) that was destroyed during the Irmandiño revolts of 1467, located in the parish of Borraxeiros within Agolada municipality, Pontevedra province, Spain.
Originally owned by powerful lineages like the House of Altamira and Counts of Altamira including Vasco López de Ulloa and Lope Sánchez de Ulloa - it features a rectangular layout with crenellated walls, a striking neoclassical doorway, Baroque chimney, grand interior balcony, central arms courtyard, and private chapel, exemplifying refined civil architecture amid rural hilltop terrain near the Serra do Farelo.
Though privately owned and not open to the public, the estate retains historical ties to feudal privileges like the "derecho de luctuosa" tax on local deaths and stands beside the Romanesque Church of San Cristovo de Borraxeiros containing noble tombs.
