Primda Castle is one of the oldest and most important stone castles in Czechia, standing on a rocky hill above the town of Přimda near the German border.

The castle dates back to the early 12th century, with the first recorded mention in 1126, and was built as a strategic fortress guarding an important trade route between Bohemia and Bavaria. Throughout the Middle Ages, it served not only as a border stronghold but also as a royal prison. Notable prisoners included the future Duke Soběslav II and the future King Přemysl Otakar II.

The castle later passed through the hands of various noble families before falling into decline and becoming a ruin by the 17th century. Today, the castle is a protected national cultural monument and is famous for its well-preserved Romanesque tower, one of the oldest surviving castle structures in the country. Its dramatic hilltop location and rich history make it a popular destination for visitors interested in medieval architecture and Czech history.
