Pustý Hrádek
Kašperské Hory, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Pustý Hrádek is a ruined fortress near Kašperské Hory in the Czech Republic, built in the 15th century as an outwork fortification to protect the nearby Kašperk Castle.
It was constructed during a time when the castle was strategically important for guarding the Bohemian border with Bavaria, protecting gold deposits, and securing a key trade route called the Golden Trail. The ruins of Pustý Hrádek lie about 400 meters east of Kašperk Castle and stand as a reminder of the region’s turbulent medieval history, including conflicts involving local noble families and royal forces.
Though now a ruin, it holds historical significance as part of the defense system of one of Bohemia's most notable Gothic royal castles founded by Emperor Charles IV in 1356.
