Quermançó Castle
Spain, Spain
Quermançó Castle is a medieval fortress dating back to the 10th century in the Vilajuïga municipality of Alt Empordà, Girona province, Catalonia, Spain, with its first documented mention in 1078 when it served as a key possession of the Counts of Empúries.
Expanded and reformed between the 11th and 15th centuries, it functioned as the county's diplomatic archive seat and was involved in conflicts including the 1472 Catalan Civil War occupation by rebel forces, featuring an isolated tower, residence, chapel, and a large oval-shaped 15th-century enclosure wall adapted to the rugged terrain.
Recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural, the well-preserved ruins overlook the Mediterranean, anchoring Vilajuïga's historic landscape near the Cap de Creus peninsula amid cork oak forests and coastal paths.
