Rappa Castle
Bofane, County Mayo, Ireland, Ireland
Rappa Castle is a historic ruined castle near Ballina in County Mayo, associated with a medieval tower house and later a country residence. Originally linked to the Bourke family, the estate passed to a Cromwellian soldier named Crofton in the 17th century and later came into the possession of the Knox family through marriage, remaining their seat for generations. The castle became the center of an influential local estate, with several members of the Knox family serving as High Sheriffs of Mayo during the 18th and 19th centuries. The family remained there until the early 20th century, after which the property passed to the Gillespie family. Today, Rappa Castle survives as a romantic ruin and protected historic structure.
