Red House (Rotes Haus)
Vaduz, Liechtenstein
The Red House (Rotes Haus) is one of the most recognizable historic landmarks in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
Built in 1338, this late medieval building complex consists of a distinctive red-painted house, a residential tower, and a traditional wine-press building, all set among vineyards in the old Mitteldorf area of the capital. Its striking dark red façade, which gave the building its name, has been documented since the mid-19th century.
The property has had several owners over the centuries, including the Monastery of St. Johann, and has been owned by the Rheinberger family since the early 19th century. Surrounded by vineyards and backed by the Alpine landscape, the Red House is a popular subject for photography and a symbol of Vaduz’s cultural heritage. Although it is privately owned and not open to the public, it remains one of Liechtenstein’s most admired and photographed historic sites.
