Roudnice nad Labem, located in the Litoměřice District of the Czech Republic, is a historic town known for its impressive castle that dates back to the 12th century.

Originally a Romanesque fortress built by the bishops of Prague to protect a key trade route, the castle was later rebuilt in Gothic style and transformed into a large Baroque palace in the 17th century by Václav Eusebius of Lobkowicz, who hired Italian architects for the design. The castle features over 200 rooms, a clock tower, a chapel with elaborate frescoes, and a riding hall now housing a modern art gallery.

Roudnice Castle served as the Lobkowicz family’s princely and ducal seat and was a cultural hub housing extensive art, manuscripts, and musical collections. Despite periods of confiscation during Nazi and Communist rule, the castle has been restored to the family and is now open to the public for tours, concerts, and events, with a historic winery in its cellars continuing a centuries-old tradition.

The town itself is one of the oldest in the region, with a rich cultural and religious history including notable churches, monasteries, and a historical Jewish quarter.
