It has a population of around 760 people and is situated about 24 kilometers southeast of Žďár nad Sázavou, 48 kilometers east of Jihlava, and 147 kilometers southeast of Prague. The municipality includes three parts: Rožná itself, Josefov, and Zlatkov.
Rožná is notable for its history tied to uranium mining, with the Rožná mine operating from the late 1950s until 2017, making it one of the most productive uranium mines in Czech history. The village balances its small rural character with the legacy of its industrial past in the mining sector, surrounded by the scenic countryside typical of the Vysočina Region.
