Lords of Kamenice built it initially, with later owners like the Vartenberks and Salhausens shifting residence to a town palace by the 16th century, leaving the site vulnerable, swedish troops razed it during the Thirty Years' War in 1639.

Reducing it to weathered palace walls where a wooden lookout tower now rises, offering sweeping vistas of the Lužické Mountains on clear days. Hikers reach the atmospheric remnants via trails, amid a landscape blending forested slopes and the town's historic core.
