San Felices de los Gallegos' Castle
San Felices de los Gallegos, Spain, Spain
San Felices de los Gallegos' Castle is a medieval fortress from the 13th century in the village of San Felices de los Gallegos, Salamanca province, Spain, initially built by Portuguese King Dinis on a strategic border site near Portugal.
Reformed in the 15th century with a well-preserved Tower of Homage from 1476, it features irregular ashlar walls adapting to the terrain, remnants of an old moat and enclosure, plus 18th-century star-shaped Vauban-style bastions added during the War of Independence.
Active through the 17th-18th centuries in conflicts like Portugal's revolt against Felipe IV and the War of Succession, it fell into disrepair in the 19th century before 20th-century restorations turned it into a museum and interpretation center showcasing its defensive history.
