San Sadurniño Tower
Spain, Spain
San Sadurniño Tower is a medieval defensive ruin perched on a former island in the Ría de Arousa estuary at Cambados, in Galicia's Pontevedra province, Spain.
Built in the late 15th century by the Soutomaior family to guard coastal trade routes and signal pirate threats via bonfires to nearby towers like A Lanzada and Catoira's Torres do Oeste, it endured Viking raids, Irmandiño revolts that destroyed it in 1467, and later rebuilding by Pedro Madruga's brother before falling into decay after an 18th-century earthquake.
Recognized as a cultural landmark, the granite structure symbolizes Cambados' "Most Loyal Town" status earned for repelling Norman and Saracen invasions, now overlooking scenic bay views amid historic vineyards.
