Schloss Slatiňany
Slatiňany, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Schloss Slatiňany is a historic chateau located in Slatiňany, Czech Republic, with origins dating back to a medieval fortress first mentioned in 1294.
It was transformed during the Renaissance period in the late 16th century by Bohuslav Mazanec of Frymburk into a Renaissance-style chateau adorned with characteristic sgrafito decorations. The estate was purchased in 1732 by Count Josef Franz of Schönfeld, who remodeled it in a graceful Baroque style, and later, under the Auersperg family in the 19th century, it underwent Neo-Gothic modifications including new wings and towers, giving the chateau its current romantic appearance.
The castle served as a noble family residence and included extensive stables, which became an important center for horse breeding and hippology, housing a unique museum dedicated to horses and their history. Today, the interiors preserve 18th- to 19th-century furnishings, including private rooms, social halls, and staff quarters, offering visitors a glimpse into aristocratic life.
The chateau is surrounded by an English-style park and remains a symbol of cultural heritage, celebrating both architectural evolution and the tradition of horse breeding in the region.
