The Sheikh Jawad Al-Sadiq Mosque, also known as Husseiniyah Mullah Mahmoud, was a prominent Shia religious complex in Tal Afar, Nineveh Governorate, Iraq. The mosque was named after Muhammad al-Jawad, the ninth Imam in Twelver Shia Islam, and Sheikh Mahmoud al-Barzanji. It stood near the Saad Ibn Aqeel Shrine and served as an important place of worship and community gathering for the local population. The site included a mosque, a husayniyya used for religious ceremonies, and a small cemetery. In 2008, it was the target of a suicide bombing that injured worshippers after Friday prayers. In 2014, the mosque was destroyed by ISIL during its campaign against Shia and Sufi religious sites in northern Iraq. Its destruction was part of a broader assault on the region’s cultural and religious heritage, making the mosque a symbol of the losses suffered by Tal Afar during that period.
