Skånelaholm Castle
Sweden, Sweden
Skånelaholm Castle, located on a peninsula in Lake Fysingen near Upplands Väsby in Uppland, Sweden, dates back to a medieval crown estate first documented in 1276 when sold by King Magnus III to Sko Abbey.
Constructed between 1639 and 1643 by high court president Andreas Gyldenklou in German-Dutch late Renaissance style using brick later stuccoed during 1890s renovations, the square main building features preserved 17th-18th century interiors including a Rococo drawing room and Empire library amid four flanking wings.
Donated in 1962 by Herbert Rettig to the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, it now serves as a museum housing folk art, furniture, carriages, and regional artifacts surrounded by an 18th-century English landscape park with rune stones.
