Šluknov Castle
Šluknov, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Šluknov Castle is a striking Renaissance chateau from the 16th century in the northernmost town of Šluknov, Czechia, replacing an earlier 15th-century fortress built by the noble Berka family.
Constructed between 1566 and 1573 by Georg von Schleinitz with later Baroque modifications, it suffered a devastating fire in 1986 but was meticulously reconstructed by 2008 using EU funding, featuring beautiful ceiling paintings, historical rooms, and a tourist information center.
Surrounded by a park with an exotic chateau garden, it now hosts exhibitions on local history, forestry, World War I veterans, and cultural events, offering guided tours amid the scenic Lusatian Highlands near the German border.
