Södertuna Castle
Gnesta, Sweden, Sweden
Södertuna Castle, located by Lake Frösjön in Gnesta, Södermanland, Sweden, originated as a 14th-century medieval manor known as Wad on a fortified islet, owned initially by knight Karl Niklisson Färla before passing through noble families amid Sweden's turbulent history.
Transformed in the 18th century into its current castle form by the Lovisin family and further modernized in the 1890s by Ebba von Hallwyl and architect Isac Gustav Clason with Baroque elements like pilasters, festoons, and rococo doors, it served as a productive estate with renovated farms and stables.
Owned by the Åström family since 2007 after a 1985 subdivision, the preserved site now operates as a luxury hotel, conference center, and wedding venue surrounded by Iron Age remnants, hiking trails, and scenic nature.
