First mentioned in historical records in 1360, this small municipality has a population of approximately 400 residents. It sits in a predominantly agricultural landscape within the Jizera Table, situated roughly 36 kilometers northeast of Prague.
The town is characterized by its historical heritage, featuring landmarks such as the Sovínky Castle, which dates back to 1903, and a town hall building constructed in 1640. Although it functioned as part of the nearby municipality of Bezno for a period during the late 20th century, it regained its status as a sovereign municipality in 1990 and was granted the title of a market town again in 2006.
