St. Mary's Priory

Dublin, Ireland, Ireland

---

St. Mary's Priory in Tallaght, Dublin, is a historic Dominican priory built on a site with deep religious roots dating back to the 8th century, when Saint Máel Ruain founded an important monastery there.

The early monastery became a major center of learning and produced significant medieval Irish religious texts before suffering Viking attacks in the 9th century. The present priory was established by the Dominican Order in the 19th century and features Gothic Revival architecture.

One of its most distinctive features is the incorporation of the medieval tower of Tallaght Castle, linking the modern complex to the area's long history. Today, St. Mary's Priory serves as a parish church, retreat center, and educational hub through the Priory Institute. It remains an important religious and cultural landmark in Dublin, reflecting more than a thousand years of spiritual, educational, and community life.
