Verified State chateau Hradec nad Moravicí

Hradec nad Moravicí, Czech Republic (Czechia)

The State Chateau Hradec nad Moravicí in the Czech Republic is a historic complex with origins dating back to around 2,000 BC when the area was first settled. The current architectural development started in the 13th century with a Gothic castle built by King Přemysl Otakar II, later becoming the seat of the Přemyslides of Opava.

Significant changes over the centuries led to a Renaissance residence in the 16th century, expanded with Baroque elements. The chateau features the White Chateau, originally a Renaissance castle rebuilt in Empire style, and the Red Chateau, a Neo-Gothic addition from the late 19th century designed by architect Alexis Langer.

The Red Chateau was constructed as a stable complex inspired by Northern German Gothic castles and now houses a hotel and restaurant. The complex includes a clock tower offering panoramic views, a large park, and hosts numerous cultural events including musical festivals. Restoration efforts between 2017 and 2019 preserved and enhanced the buildings, maintaining the chateau as a cultural and historical landmark in the Moravian-Silesian region.
