Stjärnorps Slottsruin
Stjärnorp, Sweden, Sweden
Stjärnorps Slottsruin, located near Stjärnorp by Lake Roxen north of Linköping, Sweden, was constructed between 1655 and 1662 by Count and Field Marshal Robert Douglas as a grand Baroque manor designed by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder.
The estate symbolized Douglas's ambition and rivalry with fellow noble Axel Lillie, who built Löfstad Castle nearby, but a devastating fire on May 12, 1789, destroyed the main building, leaving dramatic ruins while wing structures and a chapel were restored that same year.
Privately owned today, the site offers public access to wander the atmospheric remnants amid scenic lakeside grounds, evoking Sweden's 17th-century noble era without interior entry.
