The Surabaya Heroes Monument, or Tugu Pahlawan, is the most iconic landmark in Surabaya, East Java, standing as a solemn tribute to the Indonesian patriots who perished during the Battle of Surabaya on 10 November 1945. This pivotal clash between Indonesian nationalists and British-Dutch forces marked a turning point in the Indonesian struggle for independence and is commemorated annually as Heroes Day.

The monument itself rises 41.15 meters in the shape of an inverted nail, a design chosen by President Sukarno to symbolize the unyielding spirit of the people. It was inaugurated on 10 November 1952, exactly seven years after the battle, on the very site where the Dutch colonial court once stood. Beneath the monument lies the 10 November Museum, a two-story facility that brings the history of the battle to life through dioramas, photographs, and audiovisual exhibits.

Visitors can explore dramatic reenactments of key events, including the fiery speeches of Bung Tomo, a charismatic leader whose voice galvanized the resistance. The museum also displays weapons, documents, and personal artifacts that offer a visceral connection to the past. The surrounding park is dotted with statues and reliefs that further honor the sacrifices made by the people of Surabaya.
