Svojanov Castle, located in a wooded valley above the Křetínka River in Czechia, is one of the oldest stone castles in the country, dating back to the 13th century.

It was likely founded around 1224 by Royal Burgrave Svéslav of Bořitov and originally served to protect a vital trade route connecting Bohemia with Moravia. The castle historically functioned as a royal fortress with defensive and administrative roles, later expanding under Queen Kunigunda and Záviš of Falkenstein.

Over centuries, it underwent various architectural phases including Gothic, Renaissance, and Empire styles, reflecting its complex past. It suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War and fires but has been reconstructed several times, notably in the 19th century Empire style.

Today, Svojanov Castle is open to the public as a cultural site hosting tours, medieval festivals, exhibitions, and accommodations. It is also known for legends and ghost stories, enhancing its allure as a historic and atmospheric destination in the Czech Republic.​
