Tabernas Castle is a ruined 11th-century Moorish alcazaba overlooking the town of Tabernas in Almería province, Andalusia, Spain, strategically positioned on a hill to control vital routes between Almería and Granada. Originally defending a medina with rammed-earth walls, rectangular towers, and bastions from Almoravid or Almohad times, it saw Nasrid repairs in rubble masonry and major Castilian changes in the late 15th-early 16th centuries, including a dividing wall, artillery tower, and reduced enclosure amid the conquest, where Ferdinand and Isabella stayed during Almería's siege. Badly damaged by the 1522 earthquake and abandoned by mid-century amid Morisco tensions, the Site of Cultural Interest underwent 2020-2023 restorations to consolidate its eroded structures, preserving its silhouette against the desert landscape.
