Tel Megiddo is a significant archaeological site in the Jezreel Valley of northern Israel, known for its long history of continuous settlement spanning over 5,000 years from the Neolithic period to the Persian era around 350 BCE.

Positioned strategically at the crossroads of major ancient trade and military routes linking Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Anatolia, Megiddo served as a vital royal city, trading hub, and fortress through numerous civilizations including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and Israelites.

Excavations have revealed around 20 distinct layers of ruins, including monumental Early Bronze Age temples, massive city gates, palaces, stables, water systems, and religious altars. It is also famously linked to biblical events and prophecies and has been identified with the site of Armageddon. The site provides crucial insight into early urban development, ancient warfare, and the political history of the ancient Near East, making it one of Israel’s most important cultural and historical landmarks.
