Verified Tepenec Castle

Jívová, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Tepenec Castle is the ruin of a medieval fortress located near the village of Jívová in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic.

It was built between 1340 and 1346 by the future Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV to protect an important trade route that formed part of the historic Amber Road and to serve as a regional administrative center. The castle became involved in disputes among Moravian nobles during the late 14th century and was destroyed and abandoned soon afterward.

By the early 15th century it was already considered a ruin. Over the centuries, much of the site was damaged by quarrying, leaving only limited remains visible today. Despite this loss, Tepenec remains an important archaeological and cultural monument that offers insight into medieval Moravian history and the rule of Charles IV.
