Tiedra Castle
Tiedra, Spain, Spain
Tiedra Castle is a 13th-century fortress perched on a hilltop in the village of Tiedra, Valladolid province, Castilla y León, Spain, with earliest mentions from the 11th century during Sancho II's reign when El Cid negotiated Zamora's surrender nearby.
Originally a watchtower upgraded by the Meneses family amid Castile-León border tensions, it features a main polygonal tower with battlements, a smaller connected tower, remnants of protective walls and a moat, plus late 13th-century ladroneras and rib-vaulted interiors restored in 2010-2013.
Used as a prison for Palencia's bishop in 1430 under Juan II and later held by noble lineages like Girón, it now serves as a municipal museum and mirador offering sweeping valley views.
