Tisovský hrad (Hradová)
Tisovec, Slovakia, Slovakia
Tisovský hrad (Hradová), perched on the 887-meter Hradová hill above Tisovec in central Slovakia's Muránska Planina region, was likely built in the second half of the 13th century on an older hillfort site as a watchtower guarding mining areas and trade routes. First documented in 1336, it changed hands among noble families, endured a mid-15th-century siege by Jan Jiskra's forces before King Matthias Corvinus recaptured it, and briefly fell under Ottoman control in the 16th century. Destroyed by imperial troops at the end of the 17th century during anti-Habsburg uprisings to prevent rebel use, its ruins now reward hikers with panoramic views via a marked trail from town.
