Torre de Arias Cabrera
Spain, Spain
Torre de Arias Cabrera, also known as Castillo de Torres Cabrera, is a 13th-century fortified tower-cortijo near Córdoba city in the Palomarejo area of Spain's Córdoba province, founded by Payo Arias de Cabrera on frontier lands vulnerable to Muslim raids. Evolving from a defensive signal tower and agricultural storage into a noble residence through 15th-century expansions by the Cabrera family—linked to the Houses of Aguilar and Luque—it gained castle status with added walls, palace wings, granaries, and oil mills, formalized as a mayorazgo by the 17th century under Counts of Torres Cabrera. Major 19th-century restorations by the IX Count preceded 20th-century abandonment, leaving this rural sentinel as a testament to Córdoba's campiña estates blending military vigilance with agrarian power.
