Constructed in the 14th-15th centuries as part of a defensive fortress associated with the Figueroa noble family, the well-preserved rectangular granite structure exemplifies Galician feudal architecture with its robust walls, narrow arrow slits, and strategic hilltop position overlooking rural valleys.

Designated a Bien de Interés Cultural since 1994, it stands as a protected cultural landmark amid the region's historic pazos and castles, though primarily viewable from the exterior.
