Torre de Fornelos en Crecente
Spain, Spain
Torre de Fornelos en Crecente is the prominent homage tower remnant of a medieval rectangular castle situated on the right bank of the Ribadil River in Crecente, Pontevedra province, Galicia, Spain.
First documented in 1158 during the 12th century, it witnessed conflicts between King Alfonso VII of Galicia and Afonso I of Portugal, suffered destruction in the Irmandiño revolts, and was rebuilt by Pedro Madruga, who reportedly imprisoned Bishop Diego de Muros of Tui within its walls.
The square-based, 62-foot-tall granite tower with four floors stands as the main preserved feature of this feudal stronghold originally donated by Sancho I of Portugal to the Fornelos lineage, embodying Galicia's turbulent border defense history.
