Torre de la Calahorra
Córdoba, Spain, Spain
Torre de la Calahorra is a 12th-century Almohad defensive fortress at the southern end of Córdoba's Roman Bridge over the Guadalquivir River in Andalusia, Spain.
Originally two towers linked by a horseshoe arch to guard bridge access, King Enrique II of Castile expanded it in 1369 into a cross-shaped stronghold with added cylindrical towers, thick walls, a moat, narrow loopholes for artillery, and pyramidal battlements during conflicts with his brother Pedro I.
Now housing the Al-Andalus Living Museum with exhibits on medieval science, astronomy, and cultural coexistence among Christians, Muslims, and Jews, it offers panoramic river views and stands as a declared historic monument blending Islamic and Gothic military architecture.
