Torre de los Herberos
Spain, Spain
Torre de los Herberos is an Almohad watchtower from the early 13th century, rebuilt by Christians in the 14th century, located in Dos Hermanas near Seville, Spain, on the ruins of the ancient Iberian-Roman city of Orippo.
Built with a square plan of about 7.3 meters per side on a solid stone base up to 3.8 meters high, it featured tapial walls, brick reinforcements, internal sail vaults, and a removable ladder for access via a 1.7-meter door, serving primarily for military defense against Muslim incursions along the Guadalquivir River and possibly as a lighthouse.
After losing its military role in the 15th century, it became a shelter for herders and a residence until abandonment in the late 18th century; today, it's a declared Bien de Interés Cultural in ruins, with only two walls standing amid an archaeological site now used informally for livestock.
