Torre de Medeiros
Medeiros, Monterrei, Spain, Spain
Torre de Medeiros is a 15th-century medieval defensive tower constructed from well-laid rubble masonry reinforced with large corner ashlars, located in the parish of Medeiros within Monterrei municipality, Ourense province, Galicia, Spain.
Built during a period of frontier tensions between Galicia and Portugal, it served as a noble stronghold and surveillance point overlooking valleys and ancient routes like the Roman calzadas that connected Monterrei to Chaves and Montalegre.
Situated near Paleolithic settlements, Celtic castros, and Iron Age necropolises, the robust granite structure exemplifies rural Galician military architecture amid the region's rich archaeological landscape of hill forts, Roman bridges, and high medieval cruceros.
