Torre de Villanueva de la Torre
Spain, Spain
Torre de Villanueva de la Torre is a robust 13th-15th century defensive tower overlooking the village of the same name in Palencia province, Spain, above the Aguilar de Campoo reservoir.
Positioned on a small hill as a control point for people and livestock along historic routes, it preserves much of its original masonry structure, including discernible surrounding moats, and was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1949.
Integrated into the scenic Montaña Palentina's forests and elevations, this standalone fortress reflects medieval border surveillance amid a 10th-century settlement documented since around 1175.
