Torre de Zumel
Spain, Spain
Torre de Zumel is a mid-15th-century tower-palace located in the village of Zumel within Valle de Santibáñez municipality, Burgos province, Castilla y León, Spain.
Built by Pedro Yáñez de Ulloa, chancellor to King John II of Castile, the square-plan structure rises about 20 meters with thick walls topped by canes, surrounded by a small walled enclosure forming a patio de armas, more for displaying noble status than heavy defense.
Acquired in 1516 by the powerful Bernuy merchant family of Burgos origin, it overlooks the fertile Úrbel river valley and stands as a restored Bien de Interés Cultural monument reflecting the area's repopulation era from the 10th century onward.
