Torre del Gerro
Spain, Spain
Torre del Gerro, also known as Torre de L’Aigua Dolça or Torre de L’Arenal, is a distinctive 16th-century cylindrical watchtower located along the rugged coastline of Dénia in Alicante province, Valencian Community, Spain, within the Montgó Natural Park.
Built during Viceroy Bernardino de Cárdenas's coastal defense plan against pirate raids, its jug-like shape features irregular local stone masonry, an elevated eastern access door facing the sea, machicolations, battlements, and a rhomboid coat of arms from the Kingdom of Valencia.
Reconstructed in 1972 by Dénia Town Hall after years of decay, it now serves as a cultural heritage site popular for hikes offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean, Les Rotes beaches, and distant Ibiza on clear days.
