Torre del Tío Bayo
Albuñuelas, Spain, Spain
Torre del Tío Bayo is a 14th-century Nasrid defensive tower in the heart of Albuñuelas, Granada province, Spain, originally part of a walled alquería farmstead protecting against Castilian incursions during Granada's final frontier era. Measuring 7.75 by 6.90 meters at the base and standing 10 meters tall with mampostería masonry, corner ashlars, and upper tapial walls modified for housing after the Reconquista, it endured the 1884 earthquake with brick repairs and later served as a home, corral, and communal space. Acquired by the local council in the early 21st century and listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural since 1993, this urban survivor reflects al-Andalus agricultural architecture's evolution through centuries of adaptation.
