Torreón de los Tovar
Spain, Spain
Torreón de los Tovar is a late 14th-century defensive tower in Boca de Huérgano, León province, Spain, likely built during Enrique II's reign by Alonso Enríquez or Sancho de Tovar as part of the Tierra de la Reina lordship amid Castile's frontier conflicts.
Constructed with mampostería walls reinforced by sillar corners, it features varied window designs including a preserved geminada with arches and columns, wooden upper floors accessed by ladders, and a luxurious noble residence style typical of northern León-Asturias towers.
Burned by French troops in 1809 after earlier abandonment, the Tovar family gained it in the late 15th century through Juan Tovar's marriage to Constanza Enríquez, leaving evocative ruins dominating the El Escalón valley landscape.
