Torres De Altamira
Spain, Spain
Torres de Altamira are the ruins of a medieval castle built in the 9th century over a Celtic castro in San Fiz parish, Brión municipality, A Coruña province, Galicia, northwestern Spain.
Rebuilt in 1471 by Lope Sánchez de Moscoso after Irmandiño destruction and again in 1741, the fortress once featured six towers, defensive walls encircling a luxurious pazo manor with the Reis Magos chapel containing noble pantheons.
Abandoned by the Moscoso-Altamira family in the 19th century and quarried for stone, only a crumbling turret with barrel vault, a Gothic doorway segment, castle well, and 15th-century stonework base survive atop a hill commanding the Santiago-Noia road.
