Tower of Peñerudes
Spain, Spain
Tower of Peñerudes is a medieval defensive ruin dating to the 12th century in the parish of Peñerudes, Morcín municipality, Asturias, northern Spain, perched at 530 meters elevation on a northern hillock overlooking El Campo village.
Possibly of Roman origin and reformed under King Ordoño I, this historic monument guarded key access routes between the Trubia and Nalón rivers amid Asturias' feudal era, mentioned in 1378 documents as part of Bishop Gutierre de Toledo's legacy and later owned by Gonzalo Argüelles in 1417.
Now in partial ruin without collapse risk after over a century of decay, it stands as a Cultural Interest Site symbolizing early medieval fortifications in the Principado's rugged interior.
