Likely constructed or rebuilt amid 16th-century Huguenot raids rather than actual Moorish times hence its folkloric name for ancient structures of unknown origin - it features machicolations for pouring hot oil on attackers, a sink suggesting habitation, and fire-damaged interiors, later tied to the adjacent Romanesque chapel of Sant Romà.

Restored in modern times, visitors climb to its summit for panoramic views of Encamp, the Pyrenees, and paths to France, embodying Andorra's resilient border defense heritage within the co-principality's sparse but evocative medieval landscape.
